Chinese-style Christmas
It’s weird, most Chinese are not Christian, but Christmas is very popular in China. Of course, the traditional Western holiday changes a lot in this country.
Every thing, the culture, the food, can be adapted to suit different people’s tastes. For example, Chinese food found in the states taste very different from tradition ones. The holiday is no exception.
At first, Xmas is a religious holiday that only Christian celebrated it for the birth of Lord Jesus. But today, Xmas is also a folk festival. People stay with family, decorate the Christmas trees, give gifts to each other, and then go to church for praying. The real Xmas is a little like the Spring Festival of China, it should be a family day.
Christmas in China is very different from the holiday in America. Most young people, who celebrate the Xmas, don’t know much about the stories and spirits of festival. They go shopping, hold a party, sing and dance, meet new guys. They just treat Xmas as a good time to have fun with friends. Chinese young people adapt Christmas to suit their life style, like what they usually do in other western holidays. So I call it `Chinese-style Christmas`
For many people in China, Xmas means big chances for business, for making money. All stores and shopping malls will be decorated to prepare for crowed shoppers. And many Xmas goods are made in China.
Some Chinese cultures are also mixed into this festival.
